La historia de nuestro Baloncesto está repleta de parejas de destacados jugadores alrededor de los cuales se han formado y mantenidos equipos que han logrado destacadas actuaciones en nuestro torneo nacional. Del equipo campeón del 1970 los Piratas conservaron durante los cuatro campeonatos en esta década los estelares Neftalí Rivera, Raymond Dalmau, Chiqui Burgos, Juan López y Carlos Hernández.

En la temporada de 1974, Neftalí estableció un nuevo récord en las anotaciones individuales cuando anotó setenta y nueve (79) puntos contra los Taínos de Mayaguez en un juego celebrado en la Guarida del Pirata.

Neftalí jugo por 13 temporadas con los Piratas. Fue Jugador Mas Valioso en una ocación, Campeón anotador en dos ocaciones y Novato del Año en 1969, debutando con el equipo de la Guarida.

Neftalí Rivera siempre será recordado con mucho orgullo por la fanaticada Pirata. Un jugador rápido, de buen manejo del balón, en la defensa se anticipaba al apse para robarse el balón y copioso anotador todas las noches.
